About me
Liz Bruns, MD, MS
Board Certified Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist
I graduated from Duke University with a B.A. in Public Policy before working for several years as a community and political organizer, criminal investigator, and dog walker. I went on to earn my M.D. and M.S. in Health and Medical Sciences through the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) – University of California, Berkeley (UCB) Joint Medical Program. I completed my General Adult Psychiatry internship and residency at UCSF, receiving specialized training in LGBTQ Psychiatry, chronic pain, integrative medicine, somatic presentations, and psychotherapy.
I completed the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and received certification in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy through the Ketamine Training Center. I am committed to ongoing education in both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, and participate in advanced supervision, coursework, and collaborative study groups. My continued education efforts have included several integrative modalities including breath-work, Ayurvedic healing, acupuncture, and meditation practices.
My past research has asked how care improves when physicians consider the whole person, rather than treating syndromes and diagnoses, especially when addressing pain and complex illness. I’ve been honored to receive awards for my clinical care, teaching, and writing.
